A couple of weeks ago a friend asked me whether I was going to organize a pool for the World Cup - here in the United States it is very common to have friends, workmates, club members, etc. create a competition around sporting events where each person tries to predict the winner.  Since I am from England and a big soccer fan, my friend thought that I would be organizing a fun office pool.  I spent about 4 hours searching the web for a template that we could use, only to come up empty handed.  At that point we decided to create our own competition template for the World Cup and created the template you will find on this site.

We have placed a template that you can use to keep track of standings in your pool in Excel - hope it works for you

here it is...

Please check out the ads above.

Hopefully you will have fun setting up your own World Cup Germany 2006 competition using this template.  It is great fun for offices, clubs, groups of friends, etc.   It is also great for groups of kids because they can discover new countries and cultures by following the teams.

Please check your local gambling laws and customs and set the competition stakes accordingly.

  • Suggestions on how to play:
  • Check out local gambling and gaming laws to make sure that your pool is not violating any laws or customs
  • Print out copies of the template
  • Give to your friends, possibly with some instructions on how you want to run the pool - feel free to change the points distribution, etc.
  • Get their predictions back with stake (if applicable) before 9-June
  • Keep track of who is in what position in the pool - it's fun to send out updates.  Make sure that any emails you send have the distribution has bcc  - then you won't be revealing everyone's email address to the world.  Also ask the players to give you a name that they would like to be known by in any tables of results, etc. - they may want to keep their participation confidential.

Here is a great spreadsheet to follow the cup with - we didn't create it unfortunately - here
